Wash before you assess

Photograph in daylight

Skip car washes after a repair
Wait around two weeks before using automatic washes so the fresh paint has time to fully cure.
Keep the paint code handy
It's usually on a plate inside the door jamb or under the bonnet. Not essential, but it speeds things up.
